Some doctors are the best of the best. Fortunately, these doctors often get recognized and applauded for their achievements.

One such doctor is Dr. John Barber from Yoakum Texas. Barber, who is employed at Yoakum Community Hospital, recently won the Physician of the Year award.

This award comes as no real surprise since Barber has been a valuable, contributing member to the medical community for some time now. In fact, he has worked at the hospital as a surgeon since 1992.

Barber was presented with this prestigious award at the Annual YCH Choice Awards. The mayor of Yoakum, Annie Rodriguez presented the award.

How to Find a Doctor as Great as the Physician of the Year

If you’re lucky enough to live in or near Yoakum, you can actually make Dr. Barber, the Physician of the Year, your doctor.

However, if you don’t live in the area, you’ll have to find a doctor on your own. The good news is that you can find one just as good as Barber if you know what to look for.

To start off, you’ll need to figure out what your specific health needs are. If you’re just looking for basic care, checkups, and things of that nature, a good general practitioner should suit you just fine.

If, on the other hand, you have specific health concerns or health conditions that need to be addressed, you’ll want to put some thought and effort into choosing a doctor who has experience dealing with health needs like yours. It can take some time and research to find such a doctor, but you can if you put in the work.

Aside from choosing a doctor who is right for you and your needs, you should also choose one who is considered “in-network” by your insurance provider.

If you choose a doctor who is not a preferred healthcare provider, you’ll probably end up paying more money in fees and missing out on other benefits. Thus, do your best to choose a good doctor from within your given network.

Also, as you look at doctors within your network, try and find one who has the hospital affiliations you desire.

These affiliations will determine what hospitals you would be admitted or referred to in the event you needed surgery, emergency care, or some other kind of serious help. Even if you love a doctor, if he or she can’t get you into the hospital you want, you may want to look into other options.

Something else to use as a tool for finding the right doctor is online reviews. Reviews written by real patients, which you can find through some internet searching, are a great way to learn about what particular doctors are like, how they treat their patients, and more.

Just remember to look for mostly good reviews. Don’t expect perfection. Even the world’s best doctor can’t please everyone all the time.

While online reviews are a good source of information, you also have a wealth of helpful advice in your friends and family.

If you’re having a hard time choosing a doctor or finding the type of information you want, ask those close to you about their recommendations and their experiences with healthcare professionals. Often, you’ll get much more personal and honest insight when you talk to someone you’re close to.

Another thing to think about is how convenient a doctor’s location is to your home and/or workplace.

That might sound like a silly thing, but honestly, it can make a big difference. If a doctor is convenient to you, it’s going to be a lot easier to drag yourself out of bed when you’re sick and go to his or her office. Checkup appointments will also be easier to manage, which can help you to better maintain your health.

Location may be a small detail, but it can end up making a big difference in your health and in your life.

Remember, too, that a doctor needs to make you feel comfortable, valued, and respected.

Thus, when possible, set up a consultation, even if it’s just over the phone before you hire someone as your doctor. You need to get a feel for how you’re treated and for how well you and the doctor get along. The good news is that if you don’t quite “click,” there are plenty of other options out there.

Obviously, you’ve got a lot to think about when choosing a doctor. If you can follow these tips, though, there is no reason you can’t get one every bit as good as Dr. John Barber.
